My fav character from the LOTR series. not only is the character in the movie a master piece of animation, it reminds us all about the down side of attachment. I would assume that u know the story and come straight to what i think of the character.

Many times we fall head over heels in love (?) with something and make it the sole reason for our survival. Many times the thing plays with us and takes control over us, pulling us down into the depths of misery and all this while we follow it with a faith that it is doing good to us. We leave the sanctuary of our loved ones, hardly noticing that they are growing distant. We put everything that we have into this pursuit and by the time we wake up to the darkness which has surrounded us, we have lost it all. i have seen people race into such pursuits and i have seen them ruin their lives…. Maya as they call it, does nasty things to us…

The first feeling that u get on seeing Gollum is disgust…the feeling turns into pity when his story comes out… and finally u r left gaping when the ring drags him to his death… a life which was long, but which was worse than death.

Be careful in what u choose to follow mates, for all u know, it cud be the messenger of pain that awaits u at the end of the call.

    I have always loathed gollum… U made me see him from a very different point of view… frankly never thought of his character in the way u did. Now that I think about it, what u have written is so so true! Have seen friends suffer from the “curse” of attachment… ek baar peeche lag jaye fir to barbaad kar ke hi chodta hai.. Just like gollum gets ruined due to his attachment to “precious”
